Why the EA

The Credential With No Gatekeeping

The Enrolled Agent designation is the IRS’s own credential, and it carries unlimited practice rights before the IRS — representation, collections, appeals, any taxpayer, any matter, any state. It is also the one serious tax credential you can earn without a degree, an accounting program, or a state board’s permission.

  • No education requirement. Pass the three parts and clear a suitability check. That is the whole gate, which makes the EA the fastest route into professional tax practice for a career changer.
  • Federal, not state. Unlike a CPA license, the EA is recognized in every state without a separate application in each one.
  • It stacks. Plenty of people earn the EA first, work in tax while they finish the education requirement, and sit for the CPA Exam later. Doing that here costs you nothing extra, because both ladders are already in the subscription.
  • Scheduling is the IRS’s call, not ours. Registration, the PTIN, the testing window, and the suitability check all run through the IRS and its test administrator. We prepare you for the exam.

The SEE

Three Parts, All Covered

Take them in any order, in whatever sequence your schedule allows.
The engine plans around the dates you actually book.

PART 1

Individuals

  • Filing status, income, and adjustments
  • Deductions, credits, and the standard-versus-itemized decision
  • Basis, capital gains, and property transactions
  • Retirement accounts, estates, and gift considerations
  • Specialized returns and taxpayer situations

The part most candidates take first, because it is the closest to work you may already be doing.

PART 2

Businesses

  • Entity selection and the tax consequences of each form
  • Business income, expenses, and accounting methods
  • Partnerships, corporations, and S corporations
  • Depreciation, amortization, and business property
  • Trusts, estates, exempt organizations, and retirement plans

The longest and, by common account, the hardest. It is where adaptive sequencing earns its keep.

PART 3

Representation, Practices & Procedures

  • Practice before the IRS and the rules that govern it
  • Requirements for Enrolled Agents and practitioner conduct
  • Representation before the IRS — examinations, appeals, collections
  • Filing and specific procedural requirements
  • Recordkeeping and electronic filing

Shorter, more procedural, and heavily rules-based — which is exactly what rule-recall practice is for.

In practice

How the Course Works the SEE

The SEE rewards volume and recall more than the CPA Exam does, and rewards it under a clock.
Everything below exists because of that.

Questions chosen on purpose

Every question is selected against a live picture of what you know. Tax is broad and shallow in places and narrow and deep in others; a fixed question order spends your evenings in the wrong places.

The real reason you missed it

A blown depreciation question is often a basis problem, and a basis problem is often a property-transaction problem one step further back. You get sent to the cause.

Full-length part simulations

The whole part, at exam length and exam pacing, in the Exam Simulator — with a score report and question-by-question review afterward. Composed fresh each time, so you learn the rules rather than an answer key.

REG carries straight in

Federal taxation of individuals and entities is the substance of CPA Regulation and the substance of Parts 1 and 2. What you have already proven in REG carries into the SEE — you start with credit rather than from zero.

One honest note on format. The SEE is a multiple-choice exam, so the multi-exhibit task-based simulations that dominate the CPA sections are not what this ladder is made of. What carries across is everything underneath — the adaptive selection, the root-cause diagnosis, the readiness forecast, and the full-length timed simulation of the real thing.

EA Questions

Is the EA really included, or is it an add-on?
Included. All three parts of the Special Enrollment Examination sit inside the same $199/mo subscription as the CPA Exam, the CMA and the CIA. There is nothing extra to buy.
Do I need a degree?
No. That is much of the point of this credential. The IRS sets the requirements — a PTIN, passing all three parts, and a suitability check — and none of them is an accounting degree.
What order should I take the parts in?
Most people start with Part 1 because it is closest to familiar ground, then Part 3 because it is the shortest, then Part 2. That is a common pattern rather than a rule — tell Autopilot your booked dates and it plans around whatever order you choose.
When can I test?
The IRS and its test administrator publish the testing window and the scheduling rules, and they change from time to time. Check there before you plan a sequence; that is the body that decides when you sit for it.
I’m already studying for the CPA Exam. Is the EA worth adding?
Often, yes — and it is nearly free in hours if you have already done REG. Federal taxation of individuals and entities is the shared substance, and the engine tracks the overlap concept by concept rather than making you re-prove it.
Does it cover state tax?
No, and neither does the exam. The SEE is federal. State tax practice is a separate matter governed by each state.
